Sunday was a big day. Not just for me. But for the many Bahamian families here after losing most or all of their earthly possessions to mother nature.
How do you recover from devastation, death, loss or heartbreak? I will say from experience, you do.
The process for some, takes longer and for those who have support, the length of time seems easier.
Like everything in life, we can’t do things alone. I had lots of help along the way and I would like to acknowledge everyone who helped pull this off.
To my friends and family: My kids: Nicolas, Danny, Ramon, Raffie, Gabbie, Amber, Fawn & Jenny thanks for always supporting Mommy. Vanilla Ice, Sharon DiPierto, Polar Electric Limited, Freeport, Grand Bahamas, Sybil Jackson, Charleston S.C, Chef Jimmy Everett and his lovely wife Ileya from Driftwood Restaurant. Jerusha Terry, my personal friend. Julie, Liz, Debbie and the magnificent team from The Buzz Agency. Chef Christina Dixon-Wells, Mr. Brandon, The Conch Man from Funky Fritters, Phillip Burrows, and McCray’s Backyard Bar-B-Q owner Derrick McCray.
To all my friends in the media, print, television and radio, thanks for your support.
Keeping this story in the media is vital for the rebuilding process to get the support needed. We have to rebuild Paradise. The Bahamas is Paradise.
My goal for Sunday was to ease that burden of loss, hopelessness, heartbreak, and devastation if only for a few hours, through love, community, family and food.
I’m proud to say Mission Accomplished!
