BOYNTON BEACH — St. John Missionary Baptist Church, local clergy and Black Votes Matter held a prayer covering for men, young and old, as a way to promote peace in the neighborhoods.
The local leaders called on all parents, grandparents, guardians and neighbors to bring their sons, grandsons, nephews, male cousins and any young man in your neighborhood to the church to be covered in prayer.
“The community needs to know that we, as the body of Christ, are not divided but we are together,” said Pastor Jovan Davis. “And to give the image of us standing together in prayer and in harmony communicates to our community that we need to respond in such a way that it demonstrates that we are not standing divided but we are standing as one unit.”
Apostle Tommy Brown left his church service at the New Disciples Worship Center in Boynton Beach early to show his support.
“I believe that it is so important that the body of Christ, pastors in the community, like never before we would come together and begin to pray for one common cause,” Brown said. “There is hope, hope is not lost. There is a way and I believe we can change things in this nation, number one through the power of prayer; and number two, by getting involved in our community and going out and vote.”
The recent events in St. Paul, Baton Rouge, and Dallas have tensions high in local communities. Clergy members say citizens and police officers are fearing for their lives.
“I want to encourage every young man to grab hold of hope,” added Davis.
