Small business owners spent their Sunday working and learning from the city.
Sophisticated Out Loud Day Party hosted a networking event at the Hilton Hotel at the airport Sunday.
Call it a business event disguised as a party.
Business owners heard from the Director of Procurement for the City of West Palm Beach to see what city services are available to help minority businesses grow the bottom line.
“Any work that has to be done with the city has to come through us,” said Frank Hayden, the director of procurement for the city of West Palm Beach. “So we have a number of programs that could impact small businesses and this is our way of getting the word out.”
Small business owners from Miami to Palm Beach attended.
McCray’s Backyard Bar-B-Q owner Derrick McCray says events like this are helpful.
“It shows small businesses how to solicit and get bids,” McCray said.
Networking is critical for small businesses.
“This is how the community gets to know who you are,” said Nicole Cummings Peterkin, one of the directors of SOL.
