Lyndsey Cooper is showing even more incredible courage.
The woman, shot in a face for $40, tearfully asked her would-be killer to come forward and tell her why.
Cooper spoke to TV stations from West Palm Beach to Miami on the two year anniversary of the shooting that changed her life.
A man in a skeleton mask came out of nowhere and asked for her purse. She had just come home that Halloween night after her shift as a Papa John’s Pizza delivery driver. Lyndsey had just $40 on her. she complied, and the man still shot her.
“I picked myself up, held my face in my hand, woke my mom up to tell her I’d been shot,” Cooper said.
Lyndsey’s mom wants justice and shared a message to the mystery man.
“You are an evil person and God will be your judge and jury,” said Lyndsey’s mother, Dawn, at the news conference.
The shooting left Lyndsey’s face, jaw and neck disfigured. She’s undergone a number of surgeries and will have many more.
But the community is stepping up to help.
Attorney Gary Lesser of Lesser Lesser Landy & Smith is teaming up with IHOP for an all-day fundraiser. It’s where Lyndsey now works as a waitress.
“Sometimes lawyers just have to help people in need, whether or not there is a case for money or otherwise. We just have to be human beings who care,” said Lesser.
The fundraiser is Saturday, Nov. 5, at the new IHOP at 516 State Road 7 in Royal Palm Beach. The event begins at 7 a.m. and lasts until 5 p.m. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of all sales to go toward Lyndsey’s medical bills.
There will also be a donation box on hand. Lesser will match all donations up to $1,000.
