RIVIERA BEACH — Peace and the Feast, produced and broadcast by WPEC CBS12, and envisioned by Derrick McCray, won a Florida Associated Press award as the best public affairs program by a medium-sized broadcast TV station in the state.
The town Hall meeting on Race Relations took place in August 2015 at Dan Calloway Park. More than 5,000 people attended the event. The crowd enjoyed a free meal from McCray’s Backyard BBQ.
Derrick McCray and the staff of McCray’s Backyard BBQ want to thank News Director Mike McCormick, General Manager Mike Pumo, Operations Manager Carl Pugliese, Special Projects Manager Maria Tomasch and the entire WPEC-TV staff.
Special thanks also goes out to the Youth Recreation Association, the City of Riviera Beach City Council and City Manager, Police, Parks & Recreation and many others for working with Derrick McCray to make Peace and the Feast a successful event.
“This says a lot about what’s going on in our community. We need to continue to have the tough conversations on race relations in America. This also says a lot about the progress of the City of Riviera Beach for being at the forefront of this initiative and allowing this event to take place,” said McCray.
The next Peace and the Feast event is tentatively scheduled for August.
