Hurricane Dorian may have taken homes in The Bahamas but not the Christmas spirit.
Children’s Oasis International is teaming up with Hey Sandy, PR & Communication to make sure those displaced by the storm have Christmas.
There will be a traditional Bahamian breakfast and gift-giving at the New Disciples Worship Center on Dec. 14 in Boynton Beach.
“I’m a mom first. As a kid growing up in The Bahamas, my parents made sure our Christmas was perfect every year. We can’t make Christmas perfect for these kids, but we can sure try,” said Sandy Collier.
“Every kid should have a perfect Christmas, sit around the tree and listen to Christmas stories,” said Bethan Whitely founder of Children’s Oasis International.
Each child will leave the breakfast with at least two Christmas presents, one will be opened at the breakfast, the other must be opened on Christmas morning.
“I don’t like asking for money, but I have no problem asking for it when it’s to benefit these kids who have lost so much already,” Sandy said.
Some community leaders stepped up to help sponsor the event, including Michael Pike of Pike and Lustig, a West Palm Beach based personal injury and business litigation law firm.
“As a longtime resident and member of the South Florida community, it is important for my firm to support important causes and those individuals in need of help. Children’s Oasis International and these wonderful children are number one on our list right now and we are proud to be able to help.” said Michael Pike.
Guests will enjoy a full Bahamian breakfast with Stew Conch, Corn Beef,Steamed Tuna, Boiled Grouper,Chicken Souse,Steamed Bologna, Stew Fish,Yellow Grits,White Grits,Johnny Cake,Potato Bread,Hot Tea,Milo,Coffee,Apple and Orange Juice.
The meal will be prepared by Sandy Collier, fellow Bahamian and owner of Funky Fritters Brandon Mervil and Mini Meals on Wheels founder Chief Christina Dixon Wells.
The kids will also enjoy a Christmas story read to them by Bethan Whitely.
