Today is Peace Officers Memorial Day. Flags are flown at half-staff today at the Riviera Beach Municipal Complex in memory of those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Services honoring the fallen will be conducted across the country, including Washington, D.C.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C. features the names of more than 19,000 law enforcement officers which have been killed in the line of duty. One name on the memorial wall, is Riviera Beach Police Officer Meredith Stanley Runck, Jr., killed in the line of duty 44 years ago. The 32-year-old officer sacrificed his life serving and protecting our great city during a domestic disturbance call. To honor Officer Runck and all the heroes that gave their lives for the protection of others, Riviera Beach Police Officers will wear mourning bands on their badges with the name RUNCK. Officers will wear them from today, Peace Officers Memorial Day, through the end of Police Week.
